"If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.”
- Loren Eiseley
Cordelia is a short concept piece derived from Water, an original screenplay by Olivia Staffieri and Sophia Giuliano. Starring Rosie Leonardi in the titular role, Cordelia follows the life of a woman enchanted by water.
This project evolved into something much more than a short film. Throughout the process of pre-production right through to marketing and publication, Cordelia was truly a team effort. There is so much involved in the filmmaking process; from location scouting to score composition and everything in-between, it is a task that can only be completed by a dedicated team.
Cordelia brought with it many challenges to begin with. The screenplay was ambitious to say the least. Coastal locations, infant and child actors, an underwater photography unit and a range of studio equipment were the tip of the iceberg of requirements that had to be met to bring the script to life.
Our incredibly dedicated crew went through everything together, from filming in a freezing outdoor pool at 1am to filming in gale force winds on a seaside cliff.
Sadly, the lifestyle of somebody who pursues their art as a career is one of no guarantees and limited resources. Without the help of volunteers, art and independent film wouldn't exist in Australia. It is because of the need for collaboration to bring the screenplay to life that a new goal was formed- to start an independent film studio. Whilst working day jobs and volunteering time to shoot Cordelia , our core team members built a company from the ground up. Founded on the ideals of resource sharing and promoting the works of fellow artists and media practitioners, Nine Tales Studios emerged from what began as a short film.
